Pictures of the aluminium centre ceiling decoration of the Grand Hall aboard the Nieuw Amsterdam II (1938) by John Rädecker. The figures represent the different stages in a human life, from birth to death. The family (father, mother and child) are in the centre dish.
During the second world war, when the Nieuw Amsterdam II served as a troopship these panels where removed and safely stored to be reinstalled again in the Grand Hall after the war. After a refurbishment of the Nieuw Amsterdam II in 1951 the panels where permanently removed and found a new home in the in the café of the Rotterdam theatre. Now the panels are on display and in the care of the Rotterdam Maritime Museum.
